Knoxville African American Fairness Restoration Job Power backs path plan

A 12 months after the African American Fairness Restoration Job Power held its inaugural assembly, members have zeroed in on their first massive federal grant because the group carries out its mission to hunt $100 million to make amends for many years of city elimination that harmed Knoxville’s Black communities.

The duty drive agreed to assist town because it applies for cash from a federal program designed to reconnect neighborhoods which have been bodily divided by highways.

Knoxville’s city elimination venture within the Fifties-’70s did simply that.

Metropolis leaders many years in the past razed properties and companies to create the James White Parkway and different tasks, primarily reducing off Black communities from entry to town’s civic and enterprise core. The change left Black households bodily remoted and disconnected from financial alternative, and that barrier continues right this moment.
